5 Looks For Inverted Triangle Body Shape
Feeling all jeweled up with these looks inspired for the inverted triangle shape! Triangle shapes have a very strong shoulder and bust line with slim hips and trim legs. In order to create a balanced look with this body shape your focus will be on highlighting your lower body while contouring your upper body. You can do this with the structure, color, patterns, and texture. Keep the top half simple avoid adding too much embellishment or volume like shoulder pads. fringe ect. On the flip side you can really have fun with adding dimension and volume to your lower body. Also keep in mind elements that will draw the eye inwards to give the waist a more defined look.
This skirt is bold to say the least but, it is a perfect example of using color, design and print to add beautiful dimension and curve to the lower body. The gussets add volume and movement while with the vertical lines add length to the body. I always love a great body suit and this one is perfect it has a scoop neck with wide set straps which breaks up the heaviness of the shoulder line. I love the pocket and seam details on this blazer it creates beautiful angles st the hip line with the oversized pocket flaps and the angular lines draw eye inward at the waist line.
Skinny fit pants are not an ideal choice for inverted triangle shapes because, they exacerbate the width of the upper body. So if you love your skinny jeans but, want to create a more balanced look take a gander at slim fit styles of pants they will give you the best of both worlds. Mom jeans, straight leg, cigarette, and stove pipe pants are all great options of slim cut pants.
I chose a slimmer cut tapered leg pant suit for this look to show you that you can where slim fit pants. They have a nice gathered elastic waist giving some definition to the waist and adding a little volume around the hips. This gorgeous blouse is the perfect example of using color blocking to create a balanced silhouette. The darker blue being on top minimizes the bust and shoulder areas and the lighter green adds width to the hips. Even if you wearing this top tucked in the color placement on the sleeves still adds a little extra dimension to your hips.
I die for this lemon lime plaid print dress! The print is not overwhelming because, of the lack of color contrast. The bodice is a simple cut and because, it is sleeveless it breaks up the horizontal line of the chest making the body appear longer. A belt in a similar color adds definition to the waist without breaking up the vertical line created by the dress. The pleating of the skirt adds so much movement and curve to the lower body. Design details such as, pleats, gathering, and gussets are all great ways to add interest and volume to the hips.
This look is the perfect example of using lighter colors and print on the lower body contrasted by a darker solid color on the top. You don’t only have to wear darker colors on top but, if you are wanting to create balance this is what you want to do. And remember there is a whole world of dark colors to choose from if you don’t always want to wear the traditional black, navy and brown colors. I love the details on this jacket the oversized pockets at the hips draws the eye. The design lines at the waist give a built in belt effect and bold brass buttons both create a more defined waist. The bold print and peachy color pallet makes the hips pop!
I melted into a pile of glitter when I found this top! It may not seem to but, it checks a lot of boxes on the inverted triangle list. Some would say you should never wear prints on the upper body because, they draw attention to your upper body which is true (for a lot of prints)but, I also think there are lot’s of ways around that “rule”. Never forget it is fashion and you create your own style rules.
This top is the perfect example because, there are so many flattering design elements. The deep v neckline, wide straps, princess seams, peplum, and even the placement of the palm trees on the body all create a beautiful defined waist and lengthen the torso. I know full out bell bottoms are not for everyone but, I wanted to show the impact they make paired with this top in creating a balanced look.
