Don't Let The Green Grass Fool You
Making my way through the urban jungle in my rainbow leopard bike shorts and flowy crop tank. This fabric is so lightweight it feels like you are wearing a second skin or nothing at all. I paired it with my Indigo.Rd boots, yellow heart sunglasses, and my red mother of pearl earrings. I actually forgot that I had them and found them recently organizing some bags. I love when that happens it feels like winning the lottery.
I found this house while I was driving around the excelsior, when I saw the green I had to stop and shoot this look. I wasn’t sure what color I was looking for the backdrop which is what I love most about exploring for locations. The weather was windy which it has been crazy wind and semi winter weather for the past few weeks. Luckily it was more humid this day and not icy like it has been. The forecast had said sun but, it was still foggy when I left, which I actually prefer the overcast light better for shooting in.
This was actually a strange energetic day for me. I woke up at 5am which in my book is too early my usual wake time is 7am. Which still feels pretty new. I am a notorious night owl and have been since I can remember. I decided I needed to start waking up earlier a few years back before covid I did freelance work in the morning. I really like starting my day working out I mean whatever time I wake up it’s the first thing I enjoy doing to get my day in gear. For a spell I had switched to working out in the afternoon because, I wasn’t waking up early enough to get it done before work. It was okay I mean as long as I got it in I was happy but, I struggled some days because, if I had a client meeting or something pressing in the afternoon or evenings I always felt pressured for time.
So I decided I would get my ass out of bed at 7a and that way I would have enough time to workout and stretch before my morning work block. I also have time to put around and relax a little in the morning which is really great. I still can be in bed later in the evening which appeases my inner owl. When we went into lock down it changed everything in terms of my schedule because, work as I knew it had stopped. I decided to continue for the most part waking up at my usual time.
When you work for yourself discipline is the key to being productive and successful. You are not punching a time card and have no one watching over you to make sure things are done. I don’t believe in the hustle and grind anymore. When I was in my twenties that’s what I thought I had to do work 24 hours a day until you crash and then start all over again. I was always burning and crashing I would work myself to death and crash for days sometimes weeks. It wasn’t healthy, I felt like I was missing out on living my life and most of all my creativity was suffering. When you are on all the time it’s hard to let the creative flow happen because, you are too busy making a mile long to do list everyday and feeling like crap if you don’t check everything off.
It dawned on me one day that there is always more work to be done tomorrow regardless of how many things you check off the list today. Game changer to say the least! I started to batch my work days and created time blocks to focus on projects so, I could actually complete them from A to Z. I felt more productive and still magically was able to check things off the list consistently which feels much better then burning and crashing. Time really is an illusion and just because, society says or buck buck CEO schedules their day out in five minute increments doesn’t mean it works for everyone. and most importantly doesn’t mean you won’t find success. Find what works for you and set yourself up for success! The grass grows greener where you water it.
