5 Looks For Hourglass Shapes
With an hourglass shape you are enhancing your already shape. That’s not to say you always have to wear things that are fitted and structured. You can play around with creating a longer look similar to a rectangle by choosing different silhouettes that lengthen your body. For example a longer hem jacket or sweater over a monochrome top and pants to create a longer line. Just note that hourglass shapes tend to get lost in flowing shapeless pieces and you may appear to weigh more but, that doesn’t mean you can’t add volume.
Like this beautiful vegan leather skirt from Deveaux New York. You get lot’s of movement and texture with the pleats whilst still keeping in balance with the upper body. I love this pop pink wrap blouse paired with this skirt, it creates a beautiful sharp line at the waist. Another way to play with volume is with prints and the comic print on this trench is so much fun! Now you don’t have to go full statement but, a classic trench coat is good staple outerwear piece to have in your closet. Really for any shape but, especially for an hourglass shape.
When looking for blazers you want to look for clean fitting lines. You want to avoid boxy or oversized styles because, they will add width and hide your curve. Single breasted with a longer hem that sits at the hip will lengthen your torso and cinch the waist. It is important to think about your outfit in layers and how they look not only together but, individually. This outfit looks fantastic with the blazer but, also just as good without so, in essence it is two looks for the price of one.
So in general high waist pants in general are a pretty safe bet for an hourglass shape. And yes! I know low rise is back on trend but, they don’t do much for your curves. I mean really they are not the most flattering on most body types in my opinion. With that said I will not judge you if they are your jam because, style is expression and should make you feel empowered! I love details like the like zippers on this vegan leather drop jacket from Generation Love. It adds an extra pop of embellishment without adding bulk. If you do want to go big embellishment or volume up top and keep your shape add equal amount to your bottom half to keep the balance.
I am having a hard time not ordering this unicorn rainbow bodysuit for myself - LOL! No seriously! This look is a great example of using color and texture to create shape. You have the beautiful gathered v neck bodice that points the eye to the smallest part of the waist. The rainbow colors and peasant sleeves add fullness and drama to the bodice but, it is balanced out by the satin marigold. Satin or any shiny fabrics catch the light which in turn add fullness.
I die for this dress! It is the perfect example of how print and cut can make such a big impact. The design of the polka dots and color placement create an hourglass shape. Some would say avoid shoulders and cap sleeves but, I think this dress is a perfect example of how breaking the “rules” works. I mean really isn’t that what most of them are created for?! Think about different ways to contour and highlight your shape with color, texture, and design details.
